Confident Choices for Senior Living is a LeadingAge Minnesota initiative designed to improve quality in housing-with-services settings, increase public trust and consumer confidence and inform consumer decision-making. To be eligible for the Confident Choices designation, applicants must meet five core requirements:

  • Adopt the LeadingAge Minnesota Code of Ethics,  Leading Age's Quality First pledge or similar code
  • The on-site housing manager must have at least one year of experience in older adult housing and services
  • The property must have completed a resident satisfaction survey within the previous year
  • The property must have a resident handbook, and
  • For those with memory care programs, adoption of Aging Services' Guiding Principles for Dementia Care (or equivalent dementia care guidelines).

In addition to these core requirements, providers must meet five out of 14 elective requirements. Most providers have found that in reviewing their current activities and programs they meet many more than five of the elective requirements.

Some areas of evaluation for the Confident Choices designation include:

Quality - The provider embraces best practices and operating standards that directly influence resident quality of life.

Professional Experience - Experienced managers and staff receive training beyond mandatory requirements.

Customer Satisfaction - The provider measures and responds to changing customer needs.

Ethical Conduct - The provider embraces and is accountable to the highest standards of ethical integrity and professional standards.
